About the museum
Saken Seifullin Museum
The museum was opened on January 21, 1988, under a Decree of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR.The Saken Seifullin Museum is housed in a building that is an example of late 19th-century wooden architecture. This house was built in 1846 by a member of the merchant class of Akmolinsk and was used as a warehouse for storing purchased goods. From 1920 to 1930, the outstanding Kazakh writer Saken Seifullin lived and worked in this building; his role in the formation of modern Kazakh literature cannot be overestimated. This is why the place has special significance for our country. Until 1988, the building was used as a kindergarten.
The second building is the museum's administrative building. It was originally the home of Dr. Fyodor Ivanovich Blagoveshchensky, who lived here and saw patients for about 40 years. This building is also a monument of wooden architecture from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, built in the eclectic style typical of that time. It once housed a school of accountants, and now it houses the administration of the Saken Seifullin Museum.
The museum's exhibition is located in six halls and includes more than 7,000 exhibits: the writer's personal belongings, books, photographs, letters, manuscripts, archival documents, as well as paintings and sculptures dedicated to the life and work of Saken Seifullin.
